Artisan Story:
ARK Fair Trade is a Canadian clothing company that helps artisans in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal sell their products in the global market. Since it was created in 1984, their ethical fashion has met or exceeded all fair trade guidelines.
Supporting this company means supporting the fair wages and safe working environment of the Nepalese artisans, thus lifting the people out of poverty. ARK Imports gives their artisans the opportunity to work from home. Over 50% of their artisans are women so this option is incredible for mothers with small children.
All the articles of clothing and accessories are handmade using traditional Nepalese knitting skills, patterns, and fabrics. It was important to the founder of ARK Imports to supply unique fashion pieces while preserving Nepal’s culture and sharing it with North America. The clothing is also environmentally sustainable because it is high quality and made to last.
