Artisan Story

Claycult began in 2011 in a garage in Sihanoukville Cambodia. They initially had a team of four, including a ceramicist from Australia. The first couple of years were a big learning curve. They needed to source the clay, build kilns, work out firing temperatures, glaze compatibility, train the team and a myriad of other things involved with starting an artisanal clay workshop.  They moved to Siem Reap in 2013, which was a turning point as Claycult has grown steadily ever since.  Claycult runs three shops in Siem Reap. Two in the old market area & their flagship boutique at Siem Reap International Departures.

As a cottage industry, they aim to provide a happy work environment with higher wages, long term employment, education, social support and in some instances, housing. Claycult is run as a team … no one is more important than anyone else.

All the ceramics are created by the artisan, using clay they have sourced themselves.  It is a time consuming process from clay to ceramic bead to jewellery, but the artisans believe it is worthwhile.  The founder has this to say - “Our team works hard to provide a quality product that is unique & of timeless design. We are proud of the exquisite ceramic beads & jewellery we craft.”
